Now you have graduated from College? Congratulations! Welcome to the real life.
So what’s next? Ah, of course, the Job Application. You must earn for a living, right?
I often experience situations where most Fresh Graduate job applicants fail many times at an interview. They come from a top notch universities, possess high GPA, but find difficulty in passing an interview, either with the HR or the users themselves. It is not their technicality, but somehow it is from their within.
Here are some tips from me ….. 💡
✅ Do Your Home Work.
Get to know your employer. Their product, their business, their current project, or the business challenge they are facing at the moment. This only takes you not even an hour to study. Most of your future users will be more interested in you if they see that you do this. This is includes to know more details about the job you are applying for. The nature of the job, including the working environment, job description, responsibilities, and else.
Mastering your final assignment (thesis) during college years is extremely important. Because most of the time, users more likely to ask their questions based on your latest research or final assignment at college. This is the best time to showcase your technical skill.
✅ Be Confident.
Be confident, but not over confidence. Confidence means you know the question and the answer to this really well. If you don’t know the answer, tell the truth. Don’t try to answer the question when you end up being “investigated” further by the users. We do still consider honesty is the best policy.
✅ Be Firm With Your Decision.
We know that as a fresh graduate, you may come across with several opportunities. But once you have applied to a specific position, be firm with that.
When you are invited to an interview, show the employer that this is the job you want it so bad. Even if you have multiple options (opportunities) in your hands.
Dont let the wishful thinking of your dream job playing tricks on your mind. You can not find a dream job through a mere interview. You find it when you work for it.
This also means the consequences that you will face when you work for this job. Not able to see your parents in a while, having less time hanging out with your friends, to name a few. There is a price to pay for everything in this world.
✅ Relax. This is not the end of the world.
Come with a clear mind in an interview. Don’t let your nerve get the best out of you. Relax.
Deep breathe. Inhale. Exhale. If you need time to think, take your time. Your users can understand your situation. They were also once in your position. When you have a clear mind, you are more likely to be able to recall the answer to the question.
Even if you can not secure this job, hey, remember, this is not the end of the world.
