*HOW BIG IS YOUR WELL?*
_A frog lived in a well. It was born and brought up there. Every day it cleansed the water of all the worms and bacilli that lived in it with an energy that would do credit to our modern bacteriologists. In this way it went on and became a little sleek and fat. One day another frog that lived in the sea came and fell into that well. ‘Where are you from?’ I am from the sea. ‘The sea! How big is the sea? Is it as big as my well?’ And he took a leap from one side of the well to the other. ‘My friend,’ said the frog of the sea, ‘how do you compare the sea with your little well?’ Then the frog took another leap and asked, ‘Is your sea so big?’ What nonsense you speak; to compare the sea with your well!’ ‘Get out of my well, you liar!’ said the frog of the well. ‘Nothing can be bigger than my well.’_ *_-Author Unknown_*
How deep is your knowledge? How big is the well of your thinking? How profound is your faith? What is the extent of your love? Will any passing wind batter your faith into oblivion? Will the sacrifices to be made drown out the loud voice of the Holy Spirit’s promptings to love God and your neighbour?
When you come to appreciate the true size of your well, your world, your concerns and, most of all, your God, then you will realise just how important your role is in our world and how much you can contribute as an individual in the bigger scheme of things. You will then weigh life’s events with a better perspective and not fret about the scenes of life, with the full knowledge that the One who rolls out life’s scenes is your Father.
Today’s story is meant to teach us not to be so encapsulated in our little world that we fail to appreciate the fact that there is much more beyond what we know; it is to remind us that while this earth is a big deal, there is a much bigger deal after here – it is called heaven, and that is the ultimate destination for every faithful child of God’s. My prayer for you today is for you to be able to reach beyond that small well of your ethnocentrism, addiction, negative inhibitions and anything that keeps you from becoming the very best you can for God and all humanity.
